    Cats
    Please forward this message.

Ben and I are going to have to kill Pied and Guildenstern at the end of February. We are making plans to take them to a kill shelter. Our finances are desperate. I am actively seeking out any kind of employment, but none as of yet.

IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO COULD TAKE THESE CATS, OR IF YOU LIVE BY A NO KILL SHELTER AND COULD TAKE THEM THERE RESPOND HERE.

    1. Grab the nearest book.
    2. Open the book to page 123.
    3. Find the fifth sentence.
    4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
    5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
    6. Tag three people.

The closest book really WAS Plato: Complete Works. Page 123 is part of the Cratylus:

Socrates: In my view, however, the name is most beautifully suited to the god.
    Hermogenes: How so?
Socrates: I'll try to say how it seems to me, at least.

    Big Brothers/ Big Sisters
This is odd, but I am going to post this as public. Anyway, the program Big Brothers/Big Sisters, is looking for Big Brothers in the Tampa Bay area. There is a shortage of Big Brothers more so than Big Sisters. If interested, please comment and I'll get information to you. Please only respond if you are serious.

    Random Goodness
In a really good mood for no reason. Just wanted to share. V-day was good. Just chilled with B. Got a rose. It was sweet. I still think some random day when no one is expecting it should be Valentine's day.

    Dear Jodi,

We have completed the review of papers that were submitted for our undergraduate philosophy conference that will be held here at Pacific University on April 21-22, 2006. I am pleased to say that your paper has been accepted for presentation at the conference. We are including it with two other papers in a session on Aristotle.

We are now preparing the conference schedule to post on our web site. We expect this to be posted by early next week. At that time you can see the schedule at: www.pacificu.edu/as/philosophy/conference/schedule.cfm

So, our AC broke in our '03 Mazda 626 that we have had since July. Now Ben refuses to take road trips out of FL because "the winshield will fog up if it's raining and the windows are down". So he refuses to take roadtrips because of this, and I find AC cosmetic. He does not. I know that not everyone has AC but that they do still take road trips what do you do?

    Hi,
So... Got a PS2 today. and 3 games. EB games is good. Tetris World is really addicting. Also got my text books today. Super excited!! (I am such a dork, I could be ready to go back to school now. ) I'm a little sad though because there was a time and day conflict with Latin American Social Thought and Philosophies of Love and Sex, I had to pick one. I picked Love and Sex. This is just hard for me, as I love all philosophy and I already had to pick between Seminar in History of philosophy the pre-socratics and Love and Sex. I hate picking!!

    Any recomendations on PS2 games?

    Feeling Good/HOLIDAY
    Hello,
Nearly done with the second page of a paper. This is quite an accomplishment since I've been sick and had writter's block on top of that. Feeling like I won't have to pull an all nighter to get this done. I don't think it will be my best work, but I don't care and maybe I'll surprise myself. I am always my biggest critic.
Sean Walsh graduated yesterday! It was exciting. He was so proud. Good on him, I say. Looking forward to a BREAK.
What's everyone doing with whatever time off they have? I'm looking for ideas and possible get togethers. I miss you guys!
    Love,

    OK HELP!
So, the moral of my life is a. when ethics is available, do ethics! I could have done biologizing ethics for my final paper... but no, I didn't get an abstract together. Now I am locked into Kuhn/Darwin Darwin is the exemplar of Kuhn's ideas...argh! This paper is turning out like shit! I don't know Darwin well enough to do this . PLus, I don't feel well...asthma and lungs acting up.
    But..
I WANT to go to a party tonight and if I don't get this done I am not going. I am not that irresponsible.
oh and the teacher said I could have an 'I' though he is reluctant to give them.
    Please help!
Anything anyone knows about Darwin especially, but also Kuhn would be greatly appriciated. Shit, anything on how to write 20 pages would be appricaited. I have NEVER written a paper that long, Let alone on something I hate AND something I could not read ethics into.
    Help!!!
    Going to bed.
    Up at 230 p.m.
    Love you all.

    From Loucheroo's journal
A lot has been said about how to prevent rape.
Women should learn self-defense. Women should lock themselves in their houses after dark. Women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short skirts. Women shouldn't leave drinks unattended. Fuck, they shouldn't dare to get drunk at all.

instead of that bullshit, how about:

if a woman is drunk, don't rape her.
if a woman is walking alone at night, don't rape her.
if a women is drugged and unconscious, don't rape her.
if a woman is wearing a short skirt, don't rape her.
if a woman is jogging in a park at 5 am, don't rape her.
if a woman looks like your ex-girlfriend you're still hung up on, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in her bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in your bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is doing her laundry, don't rape her.
if a woman is in a coma, don't rape her.
if a woman changes her mind in the middle of or about a particular activity, don't rape her.
if a woman has repeatedly refused a certain activity, don't rape her.

if a woman is not yet a woman, but a child, don't rape her.
if your girlfriend or wife is not in the mood, don't rape her.
if your step-daughter is watching tv, don't rape her.
if you break into a house and find a woman there, don't rape her.
if your friend thinks it's okay to rape someone, tell him it's not, and that he's not your friend.

if your "friend" tells you he raped someone, report him to the police.
if your frat-brother or another guy at the party tells you there's an unconscious woman upstairs and it's your turn, don't rape her, call the police and tell the guy he's a rapist.

tell your sons, god-sons, nephews, grandsons, sons of friends it's not okay to rape someone.

don't tell your women friends how to be safe and avoid rape.
don't imply that she could have avoided it if she'd only done/not done x.
don't imply that it's in any way her fault.
don't let silence imply agreement when someone tells you he "got some" with the drunk girl.
don't perpetuate a culture that tells you that you have no control over or responsibility for your actions. You can, too, help yourself.

If you agree, repost it. It's that important.
I WOULD LIKE TO ADD, THAT RAPE IS NOT *NOT* JUST A WOMEN'S ISSUE, OR A FEMINIST ISSUE. RAPE IS A PEOPLE ISSUE, NOT ABOUT SEX BUT ABOUT POWER.

    Thanksgiving Weekend Thusfar
    Hi,
Just an update...spending the weekend in Stuart with Mom, Dad, Colin and Devin (brothers) all is well. Had a good turkeyless thanksgiving. Amazed how filling mashed potatoes are... also had greenbeans cranberry sauce and cresent rolls. Also brownies rice krispy treats and brownies. Will see a friend Yvonne, who was in our wedding in about 1 hour. Tomorrow will drive to Ft. Lauderdale to see Peter (Ben's dad) Made the mistake of going after thanksgiving shopping. OMFG. Other than that (and getting NO philosophy done) life is good.

    Hi All,
So I wanted to share that USF Tampa Ethics Bowl team ROCKED today at Ethics Bowl at USF St. Pete. We placed 4th and got a trophy! It was really fun and exciting... maybe next year I can coach or help coach a team. We all did really well with our cases! I'm so proud.

    hello friends
    Hi,
Just so everyone knows I've taken a "mental health day" , clear my head deal with stuff. I plan on going back to school tomorrow . I saw the doctor today , b/c I felt dead when I woke up today (at 2 p.m. ) I've been having spuradic chills/sweats/ mini-headaches. So it turns out that I have an upper respirtory infection with fluid in my ears. I have a prescription for anti - biotics and that should help. Contemplating dropping a class, (African Philosophy) so that I have more time... to sleep and some personal time. Still in the contemplative phase of that decision. For anyone who knows me more personally, I didn't give my presentation today b/c I was sick and at the doctor. Hoping Wiredu is open to me presenting during his office hours or some other time.
    more later.

    Hi,
So this is really me looking for Dusty Rancourt but anyone else who wants to help can. I wrote this African paper for my Seminar and I think it's weak. If anyone wants to help with revisions tonight it'd be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

    World Hunger and other issues
    Hello again,
So I wanted to let you all know that I have read Peter Singer's article "Famine, Affluence and Morality" and I have decided to act on the famine problem that faces the world today. To act, I will be starting an e-bay business in which I will sell my excess posessions (like books I don't read clothes and shoes I don't wear, movies I don't watch etc. ) I will start each auction at $1 and donate all profits to hunger and social issue related charities. I plan on first donating some items to hurricane Katrina victims of the Gulf states. If you would like to suggest a charity or make me aware of some social injustice in the world, please email: jodigeever@yahoo.com or post a comment here. If you have donations or would like to help or make suggestions please also comment or email. Thanks.
